Authorities in Florida issued an Amber Alert (search) on Monday for a 4-year-old boy allegedly abducted by his father after a violent confrontation with the boy’s mother.

Police in Williston (search) asked for the public’s help in finding Michael Schmitt and the boy. Schmitt was driving a 2005 white Ford Focus, Florida tag number U48KNF, police said.

People with information should call 1-888-FL-MISSING or the Williston Police Department at 352-528-4991.

Schmitt is said to be in his 40s, with long salt-and-pepper hair and a beard. He was wearing a white pullover shirt, police said.

Police said Schmitt and the boy’s mother argued at a McDonald’s restaurant on Route 41 in Williston, which is in Levy County (search). Schmitt knocked the woman down with the door of his car and then took off with the boy, police said.

Police said they were concerned for the boy’s safety because the mother has a protection order against the father and that Schmitt was upset when leaving the scene.
