Police say one of two gunmen suspected of opening fire on a group of teenagers at a bus stop in Detroit turned himself in.
The alleged shooter was identified as Jamel Turner, 18, Detroit Police Chief James Barren told reporters Wednesday. He was taken into custody shortly after detectives released his photos.
Barren said two gunmen fired multiple shots at the bus stop on Tuesday afternoon, wounding seven teens.
A third person was waiting in a nearby minivan. Detectives are trying to find the second gunman.
The incident took place shortly after summer school classes let out at Cody Ninth Grade Academy. Five of the seven victims are students; all are between the ages of 14 and 17.
Barren said police don't have a motive in the shooting.
Police spokesman Rod Liggons said earlier Wednesday that Turner knew investigators were "looking for him."
Deputy Police Chief James Tolbert said that at least three of the victims still are in the hospital but none has life-threatening injuries. He said police believe semiautomatic handguns were used.
Earlier, three of the seven were listed in critical condition, including the target of the shooting, according to Liggons.
The gunmen exited a vehicle and "asked for a person by name" before they "opened fire at the crowd," said Detroit Public Schools Police Chief Roderick Grimes.
Investigators have been reviewing surveillance camera video from a gas station near the bus stop.
Robert Bobb, the district's emergency financial manager, told WDIV-TV earlier Wednesday that he was "very confident" suspects would be brought to justice within 48 hours.
Summer school student Bria Wilson, 15, said she was standing at the bus stop when she heard the gunfire.
She said she was facing away from the shooters and ran away after the shots were fired. But she saw a 16-year-old male friend lying on the ground, bleeding.
"They were so close — it almost hit me," she said.
