Alaska Woman Fatally Attacked by Own Horse

A 48-year-old Ninilchik woman has died after she was attacked by her stud horse.

Alaska State Troopers say Sherrill Yates-Lukinich died Saturday before emergency responders arrived on the scene in the Caribou Hills.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says Yates-Lukinich was working with the horse alone in a barn, so what prompted the attack was unclear.

Peters says the woman's husband heard the commotion after the horse began stomping and biting her. The husband pulled the horse off of his wife.

According to Peters, the husband "took it upon himself to get rid of the horse."
