Anchorage police say one of their officers was shot and wounded while sitting in his patrol car early Saturday.
Police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker says the officer was taking a report about an assault around 2 a.m. and was parked in a residential area east of downtown when someone drove up to the side of the car and opened fire.
Police did not immediately release the officer's name. Parker says he underwent surgery at an Anchorage hospital and police believe he will make a full recovery. No motive has been determined and no arrest made, but Parker says the attack is unrelated to the reported assault.
