A Fair and Balanced Judge

Dear Viewers,

For some of you who are "frequent readers" of the GretaWire, I thought I should give you an idea of what some of your "colleagues" are e-mailing me. I read my e-mails every night after the show. I get home late -- after midnight -- and read them. I can't get to sleep right after getting home. It would be like someone who gets home from work at 5 p.m. going to bed before 6 p.m.! I need to unwind so I read and answer viewer e-mail from home.

Here is an e-mail from a viewer who read my blog about the Miss America pageant (in which my sister-in-law teased me about being a judge in the upcoming pageant and offered to "bribe" me with maple syrup to vote for Miss Vermont. My sister-in-law obviously lives in Vermont.) Here is the e-mail:

“Hey, congratulations on being chosen to judge at the Miss America pageant. Now about a huge block of Swiss or cheddar or some Sheboygan brats for Miss Wisconsin, or I'm originally from Illinois, how about her. Just kidding, good luck & have fun, you have just been issued a privilege that many people don't get.

Still no word from Judy Ettenhofer at the Capital Times. She must not have a conscious, things don't seem to bother her at all. I'm hoping she will think long and hard about what she has said & done & hope many of your fans send her e-mails or phone calls on this.

Good luck with the judging. Fair & Balanced!"

For those of you who are new to the blog, this viewer has been trying to get an editorial page editor of a Madison, Wisconsin newspaper -- Judy Ettenhfer -- to apologize to me. The paper wrote a very bizarre -- and mean -- editorial about my new book My Turn at the Bully Pulpit. Why bizarre? Because it is a mean spirited editorial about the book and in the editorial, the paper admitted it had not bothered to read the book before going on the attack. I don't mind criticism if first one actually reads the book. I won't bore you with the details of the newspaper's bad manners but if you review the archived blogs on this Web site, you will have the facts.

As for the Sheboygan brats this viewer offers, they are good -- I grew up about 25 miles from Sheboygan.

So now I have heard from Vermont and Wisconsin. Will I hear from residents of the other 48 states?

I love getting e-mails from viewers and I would love to know what you think about My Turn at the Bully Pulpit. I would also love to know if it is selling (and how well) in your bookstores.
