At least seven people were killed and nearly 30 wounded in the bombing of a Baghdad cafe, Iraqi officials said.

Police and hospital officials said the blast occurred at a cafe in a mainly Shiite neighborhood in western Baghdad. The officials gave the casualty toll on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to release the information.

The cafe is mainly frequented in the evening by elderly men who drink tea and play dominoes.

Several deadly bombings in recent weeks have raised concerns that insurgents are stepping up a campaign of violence to undermine confidence in the government ahead of the June 30 deadline for U.S. troops to withdraw from urban areas in Iraq.
