Fire officials say a small plane has crashed into a house and adjacent hangar in southern Illinois, and the two people aboard the plane are missing.

Signal Hill Fire Chief Greg Render tells the Belleville News-Democrat that the plane crashed Sunday evening in a subdivision in Belleville where homes have hangars and private runways. It's about 20 miles southeast of St. Louis.

Render wouldn't confirm the two people were killed, but he says the accident doesn't appear survivable. Nobody on the ground was injured. The house was unoccupied at the time.

As many as 75 firefighters responded.

Render says the plane was bound for St. Louis Downtown-Parks airport in Cahokia, just south of St. Louis. The Federal Aviation Administration says it was traveling from Vero Beach, Fla.
