Authorities in the southern Illinois village of Millstadt say two workers have been trapped in a trench that collapsed at a new sewage treatment facility.
Millstadt police say several law enforcement agencies and fire departments from St. Clair County are trying to free the workers.
Police declined to give details including information on injuries.
Brian Donley is a deputy chief for the St. Clair Special Emergency Services. He told the Belleville News-Democrat the trench collapsed during construction to expand the wastewater treatment plant.
He says police were called to the scene just after 3 p.m Monday.
