New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees are about to steal away a rival player and two-time World Series champion.
According to the Daily News, a deal is done, pending a physical, with free agent and former Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
Though no exact financial terms were reported, the deal is believed to be larger than Carl Crawford's seven-year, $142 million contract inked with Boston in 2011.
The 30-year-old left-handed hitter finished the 2013 campaign with a league- best 52 stolen bases, along with nine home runs, 31 doubles and 53 RBI and a .298 average for the champion BoSox.
Ellsbury, who gained his only All-Star selection three seasons ago, in a year which he finished second in AL MVP voting to Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, is a lifetime .297 hitter who has collected 65 homers, 155 doubles, 241 stolen bases and drove in 314 runs over 715 games with Boston since 2007.
It wouldn't be the first time that a Red Sox World Series winner was spirited away to the Bronx. Johnny Damon, one year from a landmark championship in Boston, inked a $52 million pact over four years with the Yankees in December of 2005.
