Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees activated pitcher Chris Capuano from the 15-day disabled list to start Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Capuano is making his season debut after sustaining a Grade 2 right quadriceps strain while covering first base in a March 11 preseason game. He pitched for both the Yankees and Red Sox a season ago, combining to produce a record of 3-4 over 40 outings (12 starts).

To make room on the roster, the Yankees optioned pitcher Bryan Mitchell to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
