Woods tabs LaCava as new caddie

Tiger Woods has selected Joe LaCava as his caddie.

Woods made the announcement on his website Sunday night, just over two months after he parted ways with Steve Williams, ending a nearly 13-year partnership.

"This was an important decision, and I wanted to think about it carefully," Woods said in a statement on his website. "Also, out of deference for the FedExCup Playoffs, I decided to wait until they were concluding to have substantive talks. We then spoke to Joe and came to an agreement."

LaCava was working with Dustin Johnson and was a longtime caddie for Fred Couples. His first event with Woods will be the Frys.com Open, October 6-9.

"I'm excited to be working with Tiger," LaCava said. "I contacted Tiger and Mark because this is a unique opportunity to be part of something very special. Tiger and I have been friends for a very long time, and I know what he can do."

Woods said via his website that he called Johnson after LaCava informed Johnson of his decision. Woods said he also spoke to Couples.

Johnson won The Barclays last month with LaCava carrying the bag.

Woods' best finish in a PGA event this year was a tie for fourth at The Masters.
