Eugene Wong holed out from the fairway for eagle on the 18th hole Sunday to earn a dramatic victory at the Canadian Tour Championship.
Wong, a third-round co-leader, finished with a 4-under 67 and won by just a stroke over Joe Panzeri, who also had a 67 on Sunday. The difference was, Panzeri's 67 didn't include the hole-out eagle.
Wong finished at 14-under 270 at Scarborough Golf & Country Club.
Sunday's victory was his first in just his third start on the Canadian Tour.
Cody Slover came in third at 10-under par after a 3-under 68 on Sunday.
Wong opened his final round with an eagle and closed with one. In between, he made a bogey at the fifth and a birdie at 16, but he was a stroke behind Panzeri at the 18th.
Panzeri was in the clubhouse at 13-under par. He collected seven birdies and three bogeys in his final round, then had to watch Wong hole his approach at the last.
Trey Denton, who shared the third-round lead with Wong, struggled to a 1-over 72 and tied for fourth place with Carlos Sainz, Jr. (68), Matt Daniel (68) and Brian Unk (70). The group finished at 9-under 275.
NOTES: Wong pocketed $16,000 for the victory...Last year's winner Stuart Anderson shot a 2-over 73 and tied for 19th at minus-4...The Canadian Tour remains in Ontario in two weeks for the inaugural Great Waterway Classic at Smuggler's Glen in Gananoque.
