Wolfsburg midfielder Vieirinha will miss a number of months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament on Tuesday in a 2-0 DFB Pokal Cup win over Aalen.
Vieirinha suffered the injury 33 minutes into the match, and after undergoing an MRI on Wednesday, it was determined that he will require surgery that will keep him out of action for an extended period of time.
The 27-year-old has scored one goal in six Bundesliga games this season, and he has now turned his attention to completing his rehabilitation as soon as possible.
"Now I can only hope that the surgery goes well," Vieirinha told the club's official website.
"It is tough time for me, but I also know that my family, my teammates, and our fans are behind me and this will give me the strength to complete the rehab program quickly come back again."
