Wolfsburg fired manager Felix Magath on Thursday, just eight matches into the Bundesliga season.

Wolfsburg started the season with a win at Stuttgart, but is winless over its last seven matches, including four straight defeats. Wolfsburg is last in the standings.

The 59-year-old Magath will be replaced on an interim basis by Lorenz-Gunther Kostner. Magath was in his second stint with Wolfsburg, having previously led the team to a Bundesliga title in 2009.

Magath has also managed at Bayern Munich, Schalke and Stuttgart, among others, during his career. He enjoyed a successful career as a player with Hamburg and West Germany.
