Reggie Middleton and Andre Jones each scored 17 points to lead Winthrop over Charleston Southern 75-68 on Thursday night.
Robbie Dreher added 16 points and Charles Corbin scored 15 and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Eagles (12-12, 8-6 Big South Conference).
Winthrop pulled in front, 21-19, on a 3-pointer from Jones with 6:02 left in the opening half and never trailed again. The Eagles scored 19 points off 11 first-half turnovers and led 38-26 at halftime.
The Buccaneers (13-13, 7-7) closed the deficit to 52-48 with 7:36 remaining thanks to a 17-4 run, capped by a jumper from Jeremy Sexton. But a quick 12-2 run extended Winthrop's lead to 64-50 with 4:06 to go.
Sheldon Strickland scored 20 points, Johnathan Brooks added 16 and 12 rebounds and Sexton finished with 10 points for Charleston Southern, which shot 51 percent from the field (15 of 49).
