Brisbane, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning champion Serena Williams was an easy winner in the second round Tuesday of the 2014 season-opening Brisbane International tennis event, a hardcourt Australian Open tune- up.
Williams, the top seed here, had little problems in a straight-set victory over German Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 6-4 at Queensland Tennis Centre.
Also on Tuesday, fourth-seeded former No. 1 Jelena Jankovic beat 19-year-old Ukranian Elina Svitolina 6-1, 6-3.
No. 9 Slovak Dominika Cibulkova dropped the second set, but rallied in the third to take down Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
The final match of the day will see eighth-seeded Spainard Carla Suarez take on Estonian Kaia Kanepi.
