Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Mikko Koivu scored the winner in the shootout as the Minnesota Wild edged the Colorado Avalanche, 2-1, on Saturday.

In the second round, Koivu flew in on net and lifted a backhander under the crossbar for the lead. Josh Harding then sealed the win with a glove save on Ryan O'Reilly.

Nino Niederreiter scored in the third period, while Harding stopped 26 shots for the Wild, who had dropped three of four coming in.

"The guys did a great job of shutting them down after that goal," said Harding. "We needed to win on the road and we'll take two points, shootout or not."

Maxime Talbot scored the only goal with Semyon Varlamov also stopping 26 shots for the Avalanche, who have dropped three of four.

After a scoreless first period, Colorado went ahead just after the midway mark of the second as Cory Sarich sent a one-timer on net from the right point that went off the right skate of Talbot and in.

"I had a shot before that I thought was better," said Sarich. "This shot was a bit right and where I wanted it to go, and we got a lucky bounce."

Minnesota, though, tied the game with 3:53 to play in the third, as Ryan Suter threw a shot on net from the left point that tipped off of Niederreiter setting a screen in front.
