The Chicago White Sox placed pitcher John Danks on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Danks will miss the beginning of the season as he continues to recover from left shoulder surgery performed back in August.

Injuries limited Danks to just nine starts last season. He went 3-4 with a 5.70 earned run average.

Leyson Septimo is joining Danks on the DL with a left shoulder strain. The left-hander made his major league debut in 2012, going 0-2 with a 5.02 ERA in 21 relief appearances.

The White Sox also assigned pitcher David Purcey to minor league camp.
