Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago White Sox claimed right-hander Kyle Drabek, a former top pitching prospect, off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
Selected by Philadelphia in the first round of the 2006 draft, Drabek was part of a package the Phillies sent to Toronto for Roy Halladay in December 2009.
After making his debut with the Blue Jays in 2010, Drabek went 4-5 with a 6.06 ERA in 18 games (14) starts during the 2011 season. He made 13 starts in 2012 before undergoing a second Tommy John operation.
Drabek, whose father Doug won the 1990 National League Cy Young Award, spent the majority of the 2014 season with Triple-A Buffalo, going 7-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 32 games (13 starts).
The White Sox also placed pitcher Nate Jones on the 60-day disabled list. The right-hander is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
