Werder Bremen have completed the signing of striker Franco Di Santo from Championship side Wigan Athletic, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Argentine joins the Bundesliga club following three seasons at the DW Stadium, where he scored 13 goals over 57 appearances, but Wigan finished in the bottom three of the Premier League last term and were relegated.

In addition to his time at Wigan, Di Santo also has top-flight experience with Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers.

"We have been looking for a robust striker and we are sure that we have found a good solution in Franco," said Werder's sporting director Thomas Eichin.

"Werder has a very good reputation and the Bundesliga is an attractive league, I want to show what I can do here," Di Santo added.

Bremen opened its season with a 1-0 win over Braunschweig last Saturday and will next face Augsburg at home.
