Good news, race fans! The overnight weather forecast at Pocono Raceway has gotten a lot better.
Sunday's Pennsylvania 400 at the 2.5-mile, three-turn track was rained out, with the race rescheduled for 11 a.m. today. And when the race was called off yesterday, Monday's forecast looked equally grim.
Thankfully, it's improved substantially since then.
According to Weather.com, the chance of rain at Pocono is just 5 percent at 11 a.m. and 15 percent at noon. By 1 p.m., the forecast calls for a 35 percent chance of rain, rising to 55 percent at 2 p.m.
NASCAR never starts a race without the possibility of going the full scheduled distance, and the first Pocono race this year took 3 hours, 11 minutes and 15 seconds.
If today's forecast holds true -- always an iffy assumption -- it looks like NASCAR ought to be able to get most, if not all, of the race in.
Interesting footnote: This is the first time in history a track has had both of its NASCAR Premier Series races rained out in a single season.
Pocono does not have lights, so racing into the evening is not a viable option.
FOXSports.com will update the weather throughout the morning.
