Chennai, India (SportsNetwork.com) - Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Aljaz Bedene on Sunday to claim a second consecutive Chennai Open title.

The top-seeded Wawrinka earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Slovenian qualifier Bedene, who was playing in his first ATP final, for the championship.

Wawrinka claimed his eighth singles title, third at this event, and avenged a quarterfinals defeat at the hands of Bedene in this tournament two years ago.

The Swiss star used this tournament victory last year as a stepping stone to his first major title a few weeks later at the Australian Open. He also won the Chennai crown in 2011 and was the runner-up in 2010.

"It's an amazing atmosphere. It's one of the reasons I come back every year," said Wawrinka. "It was a great final. I'm really happy with my level."

Chennai serves as a tune-up for the Aussie Open, which will begin Jan. 19.
