Vydra joins West Brom on loan

Czech striker Matej Vydra has joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan deal from Italian side Udinese, it was announced Tuesday.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Watford, scoring 22 goals to help Gianfranco Zola's side reach the Championship play-off final.

"I'm delighted to welcome Matej to the club," West Brom manager Steve Clarke told the club's official website. "He had a really good year with Watford and we believe he's got the qualities to score goals at a higher level. Hopefully, he'll show that this year with us."

Vydra is the third player to join West Brom this summer, following French striker Nicolas Anelka and Uruguayan defender Diego Lugano to the Hawthorns as well as Macedonian defender Goran Popov, who has returned to the club on loan from Dynamo Kiev.

The Baggies open their Premier League campaign at home to Southampton on Saturday.
