Vladimir Guerrero to play in Atlantic League

Former AL MVP Vladimir Guerrero will continue his baseball career in the independent Atlantic League with the Long Island Ducks.

Guerrero is hoping to return to the majors, where he hasn't played since 2011.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity the Long Island Ducks have given me as I try to make it back to the big leagues," said Guerrero. "I have a home on Long Island and look forward to helping the Ducks this season."

Guerrero spent part of 2012 in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, playing 12 games between Single-A Dunedin and Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 38-year-old slugger is a career .318 hitter with 449 home runs and 1,496 runs batted in over 2,147 big league games with Montreal, the Angels, Texas and Baltimore. He was a nine-time All-Star and won the 2004 AL MVP with the Angels.
