Villarreal downs Mallorca for first win

Villarreal, Spain – Giuseppe Rossi and Nilmar scored to lead 0 over Mallorca at El Madrigal.

Villarreal had just one win in its first six matches in all competitions, and was coming off a 1-0 loss to promoted Granada over the weekend, but Rossi put his side in front after 8 minutes and Nilmar scored early in the second half.

The Yellow Submarines had lost three of their previous four games, including a 5-0 loss to Barcelona in their La Liga opener and a 2-0 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Mallorca lost for the third time in four La Liga matches.

Osasuna 0, Sevilla 0

Navarra, Spain - Sevilla settled for a 0-0 tie against Osasuna at the Reyno de Navarra as it missed out on the top spot in La Liga on Tuesday.

Sevilla entered the match with two wins and a draw, and although it remained unbeaten, would have moved to the top of the standings with a win. Osasuna is off to a solid start with a win and two draws from four games.

Real Sociedad 1, Granada 0

San Sebastian, Spain - Daniel Estrada scored after halftime as Real Sociedad edged promoted Granada, 1-0, on Tuesday at Anoeta in La Liga.

Granada downed Villarreal over the weekend for its only win of the season, but Sociedad was up to the task to post its second win through four games.
