New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel suffered broken bones in his foot during Sunday's game against New Orleans.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer confirmed the injury after the game, but didn't have a timetable for a potential return.
"He has several fractured bones in his foot," said Zimmer. "We'll have to see what it is and if he needs to have surgery and go from there."
Cassel was injured while attempting to scramble for a first down on a 3rd-and-10 early in the second quarter. He was initially treated on the sideline before being carted back into the locker room.
Rookie first-round pick Teddy Bridgewater took over for Cassel at quarterback.
"I thought he did some good things," added Zimmer about Bridgewater. "It's a tough situation going in there. He made some good very throws, missed a couple. He was able to extend plays with his legs quite well."
Cassel was 5-of-10 for 53 yards before exiting.
Bridgewater finished 12-of-20 for 150 yards in the 20-9 loss.
