Former title contender Valerie Letourneau will return to action on June 18 when she meets Scottish striker Joanne Calderwood in the first ever women's bout in the flyweight division at UFC Fight Night in Ottawa.
The 125-pound women's fight isn't the start of a brand new weight class for the UFC, but the bout will signify the first exploratory look into the possibility of opening a new division.
No official rankings or division will be set up yet based on this lone fight, but it appears a possibility now with Calderwood meeting Letourneau at 125 pounds.
Letourneau will return to action for the first time since last November when she fought women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, losing by unanimous decision.
Prior to that defeat, Letourneau had gone 3-0 in the UFC and she'll look to get back on track when she returns in June.
Calderwood has gone 2-1 over her first three fights under the UFC banner after taking part in "The Ultimate Fighter" season 20, which launched the women's strawweight division.
Calderwood has recently relocated to Canada for her training camps, working at the Tri-Star gym under the tutelage of coach Firas Zahabi and with fighters such as Rory MacDonald and former welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre.
Letourneau vs. Calderwood joins an already stacked UFC Fight Night card scheduled for Ottawa with MacDonald facing Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson in the main event as well as Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone taking on Patrick Cote in the co-main event.
