Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Following another disappointing result, Manchester United will hope to bounce back when the club welcomes Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils conceded a late goal at home in a 1-0 loss to Everton on Wednesday, the club's fourth defeat of of the season.
The loss extended United's winless run in league play to three games, dropping the club 12 points back of first-place Arsenal. Manchester United's last league win came in the form of a 1-0 defeat of the Gunners, but all momentum from that victory surely has been erased as the club has slipped to ninth place in England's top flight.
United have little time to regroup given the quick turnaround between matches, and Ryan Giggs has urged his teammates to demonstrate a positive response.
"It's a quick turnaround, but we've got to pick ourselves up," the 40-year-old told MUTV. "We cannot feel sorry for ourselves for too long. It's a home game and hopefully it will be a different result. We need to get on a run, before this we were on a 12-game unbeaten run. We have to get over this disappointment now."
Newcastle should pose a real threat to the Red Devils, whose air of invincibility at Old Trafford has dissipated. The Magpies saw their four-game winning run in Premier League play come to an end on Wednesday when they were handed a 3-0 loss by Swansea City, so Alan Pardew's men will want to bounce back with a memorable result at the Theater of Dreams.
Manchester City, meanwhile, picked up a win in its midweek outing and will hope to build upon that result when it heads to St. Mary's for an appetizing meeting with Southampton on Saturday, and Luis Suarez will hope to keep Liverpool rolling after singlehandedly dismantling Norwich City during the week. The Reds will welcome West Ham United to Anfield on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, Chelsea takes on Stoke City at the Britannia, Sunderland hosts Tottenham at the Stadium of Light, West Bromwich Albion faces Norwich at the Hawthorns and Cardiff City travels to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace.
On Sunday, Arsenal will attempt to maintain its lead atop the table when it welcomes Everton to the Emirates and Fulham tries to snap its horrid run of form when it hosts Aston Villa, while Monday's lone Premier League fixture sees Hull City head to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City.
