U.S. women's eight advances to finals

London, England – The U.S. women's eight team advanced to the finals after winning its heat Sunday at Eton Dorney.

The veteran-led crew posted a time of six minutes, 14.68 seconds. Six of the rowers won gold in this event in Beijing, while members Caryn Davies and Mary Whipple also grabbed silver in 2004.

The Americans will be joined in the final by Canada, which had a time of 6:13.91 to win the second heat, while Great Britain is one of the boats headed to the repechage.

The U.S. also advanced into the semifinals of the lightweight men's four after winning Sunday's repechage.

Repechages were also held in men's double sculls, where the Australian duo of David Crawshay and Scott Brennan came out victorious, as well as men's and women's single sculls.

The Great Britain duo of Sophie Hosking and Katherine Copeland won their respective heat in lightweight women's double sculls, with America and Canada seeing their boats come up short in heat two.

Canada suffered a similar fate in the lightweight men's double sculls, moving to the repechage, while Great Britain's Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter won their heat to advance to the semifinals.
