U.S. boxer Spence awarded win after appeal

London, England – American welterweight boxer Errol Spence is back in the Olympic tournament, after his appeal of Friday night's loss was accepted.

Spence dropped a 13-11 decision to India's Krishan Vikas in the round of 16, but the United States team submitted a protest. The competition jury found that Vikas should have been given two warnings, resulting in four points for Spence.

He was awarded the victory when the points were added to his score. Spence is now the lone American men's boxer left at the Olympics, though the U.S. has an entry in each of the women's draws, which begin Sunday.

Spence will fight Russian Andrey Zamkovoy in a quarterfinal on Tuesday.
