Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh took to Twitter on Wednesday to voice his displeasure with an apparent $20,000 fine levied by the NFL for his hit last week on rookie Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.
The former No. 2 overall pick wrote: "$20,000REALLY???" followed by 108 exclamation marks and the hashtags #NFL and #BIGFAIL.
An email to an NFL spokesperson seeking confirmation of the fine wasn't immediately returned.
During the play, which occurred in the first quarter of Friday's preseason opener, Suh wrapped Dalton around his head and shoulders and slammed the quarterback to the ground after he had already released the ball for a short incompletion.
Dalton's helmet popped off, but the second-round pick out of TCU remained in the game and played the entire first half.
Suh, the former Nebraska star and first-round pick in 2010, was fined twice as a rookie for illegal hits on quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Jay Cutler. The hit on Delhomme also came during the preseason.
Suh was flagged for a roughing the passer penalty on the Dalton hit, which occurred with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter and the Lions leading 14-0. Detroit went on to beat Cincinnati, 34-3.
