Turkey appointed Abdullah Avci as its new national team coach Thursday, one day after former coach Guus Hiddink left the post by mutual consent.
Hiddink failed to guide Turkey to the Euro 2012 finals and Avci will take over on a contract through May of 2015 with the goal of leading the country to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Avci, 28, has previously coached club side Istanbul and Turkey's Under-17 side following a long playing career.
