MONROE, La. – Will Weathers scored 18 points and Bernard Toombs had his second consecutive double-double to lead Troy to a 74-68 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night.
Toombs had 11 points and 14 rebounds as the Trojans (5-16, 3-6 Sun Belt Conference) won for the first time in 12 road games this season. Troy also was 17 of 23 from the free-throw line (73.9 percent) in the second half.
The Trojans took a 60-59 lead on Shawntez Patterson's 3-pointer with 3:26 to play. After the Warhawks (6-17, 1-8) tied the score at 64, Troy scored the next four points to take the lead for good.
Troy was 10 for 10 from the line in the final 1:25.
Patterson and Travis Lee added 15 points each and Vernon Taylor had 11 points, going 9 for 9 from the line for Troy, which outrebounded the Warhawks 44-31.
Hugh Mingo had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Fred Brown scored 17 for Louisiana-Monroe.
