Stroke-play medalist Travis Vick advanced to the U.S. Junior Amateur quarterfinals, winning two matches Thursday at The Honors Course.
The 16-year-old Vick, from Houston, routed Teddy Zinsner of Alexandria, Virginia, 6 and 5 in the morning, and beat Australia's Fred Lee 2 and 1 in the afternoon.
Vick will face Noah Goodwin of Corinth, Texas, a 3-and-2 winner over Nicholas Lyerly of Salisbury, North Carolina, in the round of 16.
In the other upper-bracket quarterfinal, South Korea's Won Jun Lee will play John Pak of Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Lee beat Cole Hammer of Houston 1 up, and Pak topped Brent Ito of Ardsley, New York, 3 and 2.
In the lower bracket, second-seeded Eugene Hong of Sanford, Florida, will face Wei Wei Gao of the Philippines, and Brandon Gillis of Nashua, New Hampshire will play Australia's Min Woo Lee.
Hong beat Austin Coggin of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, 5 and 4; Gao topped Austin Eckroat of Edmond, Oklahoma, 4 and 3; Gillis edged Ashkaan Hakim of San Ramon, California, 3 and 2; and Lee outlasted Frankie Capan of North Oaks, Minnesota, in 19 holes. Lee is the younger brother of LPGA Tour star Minjee Lee.
