London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Tottenham-Hotspur have sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas following Sunday's 5-0 thrashing against Liverpool at White Hart Lane.
Questions arose about Villas-Boas' job security after the club suffered a 6-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium three weeks ago.
Following the loss to City, Spurs rebounded with wins over Sunderland and Fulham and looked to have turned things around, but Sunday's destruction at the hands of Brendan Rodgers' Reds appeared to be the final straw.
"The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services, the club said in a statement. "The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties.
"We wish Andre well for the future. We shall make a further announcement in due course."
Villas-Boas began his tenure at Tottenham in July of 2012 following a turbulent spell as manager at Chelsea and guided Spurs to their first win at Old Trafford since 1989, beating Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, 3-2, in September.
Spurs went on to accumulate 72 league points in Villas-Boas' only full season in charge, the largest haul not to qualify for the Champions League in Premier League history.
Villas-Boas leaves White Hart Lane with Spurs seventh in the Premier League table, five points off the top four and eight points off leaders and local rivals Arsenal.
