Birmingham, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Tottenham scored on both sides of halftime to cruise past Aston Villa in a 2-0 victory at Villa Park on Sunday.

Andros Townsend opened the scoring in the 31st minute to add to his superb week. The Spurs youngster netted an important goal in England's World Cup qualifier against Montenegro, and he built upon that strong outing by producing his first Premier League goal of the season as his cross to the back post sailed past Roberto Soldado and snuck in just past Brad Guzan's outstretched arm.

The home side produced some impressive scoring opportunities and looked capable of mounting a comeback, but Soldado took the wind out of Villa's sails by grabbing his third of the season in the 69th minute, his first goal from open play for Tottenham.

Spurs climb to 16 points to rise to fifth place in the table while Villa remains on 10 points.
