Erick Torres helped Chivas USA claim just its second league win in its last 20 outings as his brace saw the club down Red Bull New York, 3-2, at the StubHub Center on Sunday.
Julio Morales had put the Goats in front in the 30th minute when he collected a pass from Carlos Alvarez and fired a shot into the back of the net from the top of the box, but it was quickly canceled out when Tim Cahill nodded home a corner kick from Thierry Henry a minute later.
The Goats were awarded a penalty kick just before halftime after Ibrahim Sekagya pushed over Torres in the box, which allowed the Chivas striker to restore his side's one-goal lead by converting the ensuing attempt.
Chivas held the one-goal margin until the dying stages when Torres capitalized on a failed clearance from the New York defense by slotting a shot into the bottom corner.
it proved to be a vital goal as the Red Bulls pulled one back five minutes later through a header from Dax McCarty, which turned out to serve merely as a consolation strike.
