MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Quinteris Toppings threw for 127 yards and a touchdown as Alabama State scored 26 straight points in its 26-10 victory over Jackson State on Saturday.
Toppings — who replaced starting QB Daniel Duhart in the second half — capped his first third-quarter drive with a 57-yard touchdown pass to Earl Lucas and a 9-3 lead for the Hornets (5-5, 4-4 Southwest Athletic Conference).
Malcolm Cyrus ran for 72 yards and Khalid Thomas added 48 yards and a touchdown for Alabama State.
Thomas' score came late in the third and the Hornets led 16-3. Early in the fourth, he fumbled at the goal line and wide receiver Ephraim Henderson recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown and Alabama State extended its advantage to 23-3.
The only touchdown for the Tigers (3-7, 1-6) came late in the fourth quarter on a 25-yard pass from LaMontiez Ivy to Lacorey Tucker.
