Cal State Northridge has named Reggie Theus its new head basketball coach.
Theus, only the fifth men's head basketball coach in the 55-year history of the program, was head coach of the Sacramento Kings for two seasons (2007-08, 2008-09). He was also an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2009-11.
"I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to get back into college basketball," said Theus. "This is what I really want to do. To have an opportunity to coach in my hometown area is really a dream for me. This is what I really wanted."
Theus, who played 13 seasons in the NBA, was the head coach at New Mexico State (2005-06, 2006-07), and was an assistant coach at Louisville (2003-04, 2004-05) under head coach Rick Pitino.
Theus had a 41-23 record during his time at New Mexico State. That included a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2006-07.
He replaces Bobby Braswell, whose contract was not renewed. Braswell had spent the last 17 seasons as CSUN's head coach, compiling a 251-258 record, including a 15-17 mark in 2012-13.
