Updated

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics were delayed a year because of the coronavirus pandemic and Olympians from all over the globe had to wait before competing for gold in Japan.

On July 23, athletes will come together to start the delayed Olympics one year later. The threat of coronavirus still remains, and it will have a glaring impact on how the competitions move forward.

There will no fans in attendance this year for the Games – domestic or foreign. Rigorous coronavirus testing has been mandated and athletes have been asked to put on their own medals and forgo shaking hands with other competitors.

Team USA will be the obvious favorites in most of the events during the Olympics. The Americans won a total of 121 medals in 2016 (46 gold, 37 silver and 38 bronze) which led all countries. The U.S. had 104 medals in 2012 (46 gold, 28 silver and 30 bronze), which also led all the participants.

This year’s Team USA roster will feature a handful of notable faces like Simone Biles, Kevin Durant and Katie Ledecky. But there are new competitors who will take the national spotlight and a handful of new sports for fans to tune into.

Here’s who is representing the Stars and Stripes in this year’s Games.
