Ryan Taylor scored 21 points and Maurice Daly Ndour added 12 with 10 rebounds as Ohio defeated Appalachian State 73-47 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.
Ohio opened the second half with a 19-2 run sparked by a jumper, two 3-pointers and a layup from Taylor to make it 54-29 with 12:47 left.
The Bobcats never trailed, shot 48.1 percent and made eight 3-pointers. Antonio Campbell chipped in 13 points for Ohio before fouling out late.
Taylor hit a trio of 3-pointers, finished 9 of 13 from the field and dished out four assists.
The Mountaineers were limited to 18-of-55 shooting (32.7 percent). They closed within four late in the first half before Ohio surged away.
Chris Burgess and Tommy Spagnolo each had 11 points and Spagnolo grabbed nine rebounds for Appalachian State.
