The Sun drafted No. 1 once before, in 2010, after making a trade with the Minnesota Lynx. They picked center Tina Charles, who was named Rookie of the Year.

The rest of the first round in order is: Indiana Fever, Washington Mystics, Seattle Storm, Atlanta Dream, Phoenix Mercury, Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx.

The Lynx won their second WNBA title in three years in October.
