The lead was doubled 12 minutes from time as a corner kick from Theo Janssen fell to NEC's Abdisalam Ibrahim, who turned it over to Sulejmani for his second goal of the match.

Substitute Davy Klaassen put the result away just after entering the match as he found the bottom corner of the net in the 82nd minute to help Ajax keep hold of fourth place.

Third-place Twente was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Vitesse, leaving the club three points clear of Ajax, while Feyenoord moved into fifth with goals from John Guidetti and Jerson Cabral in the final 15 minutes of a 2-1 win over 10- man RKC Waalwijk.
