Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The worst-kept secret of this year's NFL free agency period is now a reality, as the Miami Dolphins announced Wednesday that the team has signed All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a massive six- year contract.

Though the Dolphins did not disclose financial terms, ESPN reported Sunday that Suh will be paid $60 million over the first three years and can earn up to $114 million over the life of the deal, of which $60 million is guaranteed.

The pact makes Suh the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans set the market in 2014 when he signed a six-year, $100 million contract with $51.8 million in guaranteed money.

"I can't wait to get to work," Suh said during his introductory press conference. "I'm going out there to help my teammates win and help be the best defense we can be on the field."

Suh recorded 239 tackles, 36 sacks and one interception over five seasons with the Lions. A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Suh is known for his aggressive style of play.

The 28-year-old Suh served a two-game suspension in 2011 after he stomped on the arm of then-Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith. He has also received multiple fines throughout his career.

The Dolphins were 24th against the run in 2014. The Lions, on the other hand, finished first against the run.

"It's a big day for the entire franchise," Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum remarked.

As an obvious aftereffect from Suh's addition, the Dolphins released veteran defensive tackle Randy Starks.

Starks went to two Pro Bowls during his seven-year tenure in Miami and had started at least 14 games in each of the past six seasons. The 31-year-old had a $6 million cap number for 2015, however.

Over a combined 111 games in a Dolphins uniform, Starks compiled 253 tackles, 30 1/2 sacks and four interceptions. The 11-year pro missed just one game during his time with the team.
