Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has ended speculation about his future after he signed a new contract with the club on Friday.
The 26-year-old has been in splendid form since returning from suspension in September as he has bagged a league-leading 17 goals in just 11 Premier League games, helping Liverpool climb to second place in the league table.
Under his previous contract Suarez was tied to the club until 2016, but he stated publicly in May that he wanted to leave, prompting multiple bids from Arsenal for his services.
However, Liverpool showed no interest in selling the Uruguay international, and he has now reversed course with a new contract that is believed to run until 2018, although the club would only say it was a "long-term" deal.
"I am delighted to have agreed a new deal with Liverpool and have my future secured for the long term," Suarez told the club's website.
"We have some great players and the team is growing and improving all the time. I believe I can achieve the ambitions of winning trophies and playing at the very highest level with Liverpool. My aim is to help get us there as quickly as possible."
