Sturm, whose last bout ended in a split-decision victory over Matthew Macklin in June, escaped another title fight in a close call.
Judge Jean-Francois Toupin scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Sturm (36-2-2), while Ted Gimza favored the British Murray (23-0-1) by a 115-113 count. The third judge, Pasquale Procopio, scored it a 114-114 draw.
