It seems Charlie Strong isn't going to struggle coming up with his 2014 quarterback's name any longer.
Though the competition between 2014 starter Tyrone Swoopes and redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard isn't over, Strong told reporters Saturday that if Texas's season opener against Notre Dame was today, "it would be Tyrone" getting the starting nod.
Swoopes started 12 games a season ago for the Longhorns, throwing for 2,409 yards with a 13-to-11 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
But former four-star, top-100 recruit Heard has been in an open competition with Swoopes throughout spring camp, summer workouts and now the Longhorns' fall camp. Despite Heard's talent, however, the junior Swoopes' experience has by all accounts kept him astep ahead of Heard throughout the year.
