WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington Nationals rookie Stephen Strasburg is set to return to the team's rotation next week after a stint on the disabled list with a stiff pitching shoulder.
Strasburg, the top pick in the 2009 draft, threw 43 pitches before his team's game against Arizona on Thursday and did not experience stiffness in the shoulder that landed him on the disabled list last week.
"It feels really, really good right now. I was a little anxious out there. I flew open a little bit on a couple, but there (were) a lot of good pitches in there," Strasburg said on the team's website (http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/).
The 22-year-old pitcher is scheduled to start on Tuesday when the Nationals open a three-game series against Florida. He was scratched minutes before a scheduled start last week when he felt a problem in his shoulder.
Strasburg, who two months ago made one of the most talked about Major League Baseball debuts in years, is 5-2 with a 2.32 ERA and 75 strikeouts this year.
