MIAMI (Reuters) - PGA of America chief executive Joe Steranka has been appointed chairman of the World Golf Foundation (WGF) for 2010, the organization said on Thursday.
Steranka, who joined the WGF board in 2006, takes over from Royal & Ancient chief executive Peter Dawson, who served as the foundation's chairman last year.
"The expansion of golf's global appeal, from elite players on tour to beginners seeking the finest instruction, makes this an important time for the World Golf Foundation," Steranka said in a statement.
"The Foundation will continue to be a catalyst in bringing our industry together on initiatives which protect, promote and enhance the sport and the business of golf."
The WGF, created in 1993, is a non-profit organization that develops and supports initiatives earmarked to impact lives in a positive way through the game of golf.
It is supported by the major international golf organizations and professional tours across the globe and provides oversight to the World Golf Hall of Fame.
