Ardmore, PA – Kyle Stanley and Mike Weir were among six players added to the U.S. Open field on Monday morning.
Stanley, the 2012 Phoenix Open winner, earned a spot at Merion Golf Club via the world rankings. He was ranked 60th in the world on Monday and the top 60 all get spots in the field for the season's second major.
Weir, the 2003 Masters champion, headlined a group of five alternates that earned final five available spots. The other four were Harold Varner III, Ryan Palmer, Ryan Yip and Rikard Karlberg.
Stanley has competed in three U.S. Opens, but has made just one cut. He also played at the 2005 U.S. Amateur at Merion, but failed to make the match play portion of that championship.
Weir will be competing in his 12th U.S. Open. His best finish was in 2003, when he shared third place.
Palmer has played in the U.S. Open three previous times and made the cut once -- at Congressional in 2011. He shared 21st place that week.
Karlberg missed the cut in his only U.S. Open start in 2010 at Pebble Beach, while Varner and Yip are each making their first appearance at the Open.
The season's second major kicks off Thursday on the East Course at Merion Golf Club in suburban Philadelphia.
